Garden EquipmentFor a garden, you will need a tiller as the main power equipment choice. The garden should be tilled in the fall with fertilizer. Many people like to make a compost bin and use that for their garden. If you don't have that, steer manure and/or compost from the local landfill will make a good choice. It is a good idea to till the nutrients into the soil in the fall. This will give the soil time to absorb and get ready for planting. You can do it in the spring, also, but the fall is better. Tiller ChoicesIf you have a small garden, it doesn't matter all that much what kind of tiller you buy because almost anything will work. The best tillers have rear tines. They are easier to control and usually give you more power. You should be careful and buy something that isn't too heavy for you to control. Many people like to go overboard and get an industrial grade tiller and it is overkill for a small garden. A general rule of thumb is to spend less than $500.00 on the tiller. A tiller in the $300-$400 dollar range would be a good choice and try to get rear tines. |
