Lawn Mower PartsEven the best lawn mower needs maintenance parts to keep it running smoothly. The most common parts to replace are the blades, the wheels, the bags, spark plugs and the wheel height notches. Lawnmower BladesSome people sharpen a dull lawnmower blade, but it isn't the best idea unless you don't mind taking it off and grinding it yourself. People can never get the same edge as the factory did. They may not get the angle quite right or they may shave it too thick or too thin. In most cases, the original factory blade will last ten times longer and cut better. If your time means anything to you, it is better to just buy a new blade. Lawnmower WheelsThe wheels wear out the tread just like a car tire; especially for those working on hills. Over time, the wheels will get so bald that you can't get the mower to climb a hill very well. If you mow a lot, the wheels will last a couple of years before needing replacement. Lawnmower BagsThe lawnmower bags are made of industrial fabric material. It is lightweight and strong, but always wears out; especially at the corners. Over time you will notice some grass coming out of the bag. This means it is time to get a new bag for the lawnmower. Some people just like their stuff to look nice and the bag gets ratty a lot faster than anything else on the mower. Wheel Height NotchesThe wheels are kept at a certain height by metal notches. This makes the mower height adjustable. A lot of mowers can have damaged notches from hitting bumps. If you teenager takes the mower off a big bump the notches may get broken off. The good news is that usually one or two come off and the mower is operational by changing heights or because one loose wheel won't stop you. Lawnmower Spark PlugsLawnmowers should have the spark plug changed every year. Oddly, many people just toss out a mower that is a couple of years old because it doesn't start well anymore. The spark plug is not meant to last a long time. It is meant to be replaced often. If you change the spark plug every year the machine will operate much better. Other PartsThere are many other lawnmower parts that you may need to order. We will be adding these parts soon as we develop this site. |
