Manual Lawn Mower

What the #$%^? Does anybody use these things anymore? Surprise!! The green movement has made avoiding gasoline all the rage. Manual lawn mowers are actually called reel mowers. And, believe it or not, they are the best choice for many people that aren't even “green”.

Small Yards are Ideal for a Manual Lawn Mower

The small yard can probably be mowed easier with a reel mower. You don't need gasoline or oil and you don't need to start the mower. You can get the mower out and mow a small yard before a gas mower operator can even get started.

Easier on the Environment

A manual lawn mower does not need yearly maintenance. And, since it doesn't need gas and oil, there are some savings. The other savings factor is that a reel mower is less expensive to purchase. Most importantly, there are no emissions with a manual reel lawn mower.

Manual Lawn Mowers are Better for the Grass

The reel mower manufacturers are too small to do much marketing, but one of the important things about a reel mower is that it is better for the grass. You simply can't scalp the lawn with a reel mower. It follows then, that you can actually cut the grass shorter than with a gas lawn mower. The other main factor is the way that the reels slice the grass blade. The reel mower tends to cut it cleaner and the power gas mower will tend to shred it and batter it a lot more. It makes sense. There is one blade going way fast or a set of slower blades. The faster blades get damaged easily with one mistake and reel blades are hard to damage because you just can't push the mower hard enough. And, a bunch of blades are going to be sharper than one blade.

The evidence is in golf course management. Go to a golf course and you will see that reel mowers are the preferred choice. The main difference is that golf courses use gas powered reel mowers. Theses types of mowers are too expensive for homeowners, but the manual reel lawn mower is a great choice for a homeowner.
