Outdoor Power Equipment Information

There is a lot of information out there about how to take care of your lawn and yard. What you will find is that most landscape professionals do a lot of the same things that work very well. This site will help you to know how to take care of your yard professionally.

The Top Mistakes That Homeowners do not Know They are Making

#1 – Many homeowners try to get by with a really cheap mower that works well for a year or two, but will need to be replaced every few years. This is much more costly and a big hassle compared with buying one commercial Honda.

#2- Many homeowners buy an electric string trimmer based on price or they buy the cheapest gas trimmer like a Ryobi. Most of these homeowners end up having problems and the equipment is such a pain to use. Professionals know to purchase a high quality Stihl or Echo string trimmer. The added expense is totally worth it.

#3- Buying a string trimmer that switches out with multiple attachments is a waste of money. Homeowners never use the attachments and the attachments are usually inferior to a product that was designed for that very purpose only. Instead, buy a separate edger and mower.

#4- Sharpening the lawn mower blade is usually not worth it. The new edge is totally not the same as the one from the factory. The only way it would be worth it at all is if you have your own grinder and don't mind taking the blade off a few times a year for sharpening. For most people, buying a new blade every two or three years is good enough.

#5- Not changing the spark plug. When lawn mowers get difficult to start, the problem is that it often requires a new spark plug. Don't run out and pay $75.00 to a shop or buy a new mower until you change the spark plug yourself for $3.00.

#6- Not buying an edger. Many homeowners avoid buying the edger and reason that they can get by with just a string trimmer. In most cases, even though someone that is good with a string trimmer can technically get the edge, it is difficult and doesn't look as good. In addition, most people avoid it and the edging doesn't get done.

#7- Not reading the string trimmer manual on how to load it. It can be a bit confusing to load a string trimmer. Many homeowners simply do not take the time to read the directions and stick with it until they can do it properly. This is important because often times people do not use the string trimmer on account of not knowing how to load it properly.

#8- Not purging the gas or using gas stabilizer. At the end of the year, try and run your equipment out of gas. Old gas gets sticky and will destabilize. If that happens, the carboreter will need to be cleaned out and you will need a new spark plug. The best thing to do is to get rid of all the gas at the end of the year, but you also have the option of adding a gas stabilizer available at your local auto parts store.

#9- Not using high octane gasoline. Small performance engines always need high octane gas. People rarely read their user manual and then run their equipment with low octane gas and it effects starting and performance.

There are a lot more mistakes we will add at a future time. The main thing to know is to go to a real lawn mower shop that carries Honda and Stihl or Echo. Then, purchase the best items. In the long run, it will save you money to buy quality. It isn't inexpensive to replace something every few years.
