Weed Wacker

A weed wacker is slang for string trimmer. The original brand Weed Eater is partly why weed wackers have become so popular. Don't you just love the term weed wacker. It sounds like you are going to do something manly.

Revving the Weed Wacker Motor

The weed wacker is used to trim lawns and for weeds. When trimming a lawn, keep the motor at about one half to three quarters of maximum speed. If you rev up the motor all the way, you will strip tree bark, scalp lawns, and break windows.

When wacking down large weeds, it is now the time to rev the motor all the way up. Stand back and rev it up good before tackling a weed. You will find the weeds come down much better and the weed bodies will help keep rocks from flying. In addition, there is no worry of scalping the grass or tearing away at bark.

Safety Goggles

You will definitely need some safety goggles. There are lots of tiny rocks that come flying at you. You don't want rocks and dust in your eyes. The best safety goggles are made by Stihl and Echo. They are made just for the purpose of weed wacking. The best ones to wear look and feel like regular sunglasses, but are real safety glasses.

Ear Protection

The weed wacker gets pretty annoying to your ears. Long term exposure can lead to hearing loss. You should always wear hearing protection for weed wacking.

Big Weeds and the Weed Wacker

If you have a lot of huge weeds, you can buy an attachment for the string trimmer. The attachment is like a saw blade. You may have noticed that during the whacking of large weeds that the string keeps getting cut down. For huge weeds, it can really slow you down and sometimes a saw attachment will be necessary. How will you know? You hardly ever need the attachment. If you simply can't seem to get the job done efficiently, go and try a saw blade attachment.
